Friends of Kings Park

About Us

Maintaining Kings Park and continuing its work involves hundreds of people, many of them volunteer members of Friends of Kings Park.

Friends of Kings Park was established in 1993 to involve the community in its vision for Kings Park and Botanic Garden as a special place for people and plants.  The objective of Friends of Kings Park is to assist Kings Park and Botanic Garden in achieving its mission by encouraging interest and public input through:

  • Education and publication
  • Preserving cultural heritage
  • Active participation in conservation, bush land management and horticulture
  • Assisting research
  • Promotion and publicity
  • Raising funds for special projects

Friends of Kings Park currently has in excess of 800 members who support the Park.  Of these 800, approximately 200 members volunteer their time and efforts to assist in fund raising, growing native plants in our nursery, restoring bush land and research.

  • About Us

Kings Park and Botanic Garden is managed by the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority, a statutory authority of the Western Australian State Government within the Environment portfolio. The authority also manages Bold Park, a 430 hectare coastal bushland A-class reserve.

The vision of the Botanic Gardens & Parks Authority is to create and provide world recognised botanic gardens and parks and to inspire the conservation of biodiversity.  Its mission is to conserve and enhance Kings Park and Botanic Garden and Bold Park with the community, and to conserve biological diversity generally.  Our core business is:
    • To provide, improve and promote recreational and tourism services and facilities
    • To care for, control and manage botanic gardens, urban bushland and parks
    • To enhance cultural heritage
    • To conserve and enhance biodiversity through research and education
    Funding and Support

The Botanic Gardens & Parks Authority undertakes a wide range of projects, researches rare and endangered flora, improves the natural and built environment, and enhances visitor experiences.  Kings Park & Botanic Garden is the most visited tourist attraction in the state of Western Australia and incorporates cultivated parklands, an extensive botanic garden and acres of natural bushland one kilometre from the heart of the city.  Bold Park is an urban bushland area in the Floreat and City Beach area undergoing extensive restoration and conservation.

    Government Funding

The Government of Western Australia provides an ongoing annual budget for management and maintenance of the designated lands, and the authority seeks to develop further strategic alliances and partnerships with the wider public and private sector, industry groups and the general community.
