Hyden Community Legacy
About Us
Hyden is described as a thriving agricultural and tourism community, where a small but enthusiastic population likes to make big noise about life in remote and rural WA. In 2004 their passion for the town shone through in the formation of the Hyden Community Legacy donation fund.
Since the establishment of the fund, the local advisory committee has been working to attract gifts, bequests, sponsors and other contributions to promote their town’s vitality and see the community grow.
The geographical location of the town means that it is highly dependant on community spirit. The collaboration between the Hyden community and Western Australian Community Foundation is seen as an effective and achievable way to enable future local projects to be realised.
Local Advisory Committee
At a public meeting in 2004, local community members were nominated to form an advisory committee to work closely with Western Australian Community Foundation to grow and build the fund, and seek and recommend local initiatives and projects for support. Current volunteers are Jonathan Lovering (Chairman), Frieda Lovering, Brian Mayfield, Gavin Haslam, Heather Muir and Terry Hales.

Fund Distribution
Five local initiatives benefited from support through the 2008 grant round finalised in February. Around $6,000 of interest earned from gifts made to the fund, was shared amongst local groups thanks to the support of the Hyden community.
The Hyden Occaisional Child Care received a grant to purchase new signage for the centre. The Hyden Resource & Telecentre received support towards the purchase of an information display system. The local St John Ambulance sub-centre's grant for the installation of appropriate flooring in the training centre was also approved. A grant in the sum of $2,500 was also awarded to the Hyden Progress Association for the provision of furnishings in the newly opened pastoral care unit. And finally, the Hyden Toy Library received funding to purchase new toys to replace those that have been much loved and are now worn out!
