Planned Individual Networks Inc
About Us
PIN’s purpose is to support families plan and develop a secure and fulfilling future for their relatives with disabilities in the Perth metropolitan area. Our vision is for an inclusive society where people are valued for their gifts and contributions and are supported to live a safe, secure and fulfilling life.
What is a Network?
A Planned Individual Network is a group of committed men and women who are in a relationship with the person with a disability (the focus person). Each member of the Network freely forms a relationship with the focus person and with every other member of the Network. Through their relationships, the Network members offer support, advocacy, monitoring and companionship.
Relationships are the key to a good life. Research shows that quality of life is directly related to the number of good relationships one has: the more relationships, the better the quality of life: the absence of good relationships results in a diminished quality of life.
How is a Network Formed?
There are three stages in the development process: exploration, formation and maintenance.
Facilitators support the focus person to identify their interests and passions and invite people who share similar interests to make a commitment to the person. Facilitators are paid by the family to develop and maintain the Network. Network members are not paid, but are rewarded by friendship and the opportunity to share their interests with one another.
PIN is modelled on a concept developed in Vancouver, Canada, in 1989 called PLAN (Planned Living Advocacy Network). Details can be viewed at www.plan.ca
In Our Community
Goals for our donation account
It is our goal to achieve a donation account that will support PIN in one of its core values, which is to be self sufficient: to enable financial independence for day to day operations so that it can advocate on behalf of families in an effective and accountable manner. Independence allows PIN to speak with a strong voice – the voice of families. PIN allocates 20 per cent of all donations directly to the donation account at WACF.
The Board will continue to develop a Social Enterprise Program that over time will add to the donation account at WACF to support its core value of self sufficiency without the need to rely on recurrent Government Funding.
Why PIN set up the donation Account?
To achieve a secure capital account to achieve financial independency for long-term viability at arms length from the day to day operations of PIN.
